EVE’s New Pilot Experience

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Well I’m a fair bit behind the times but I finally played an alt through the new player experience last night and I must say I’m impressed. I think that my experience in the game made it much easier than a new player would but there seems to be some continuity that wasn’t there before.

I especially like the career path selection that points you to a new agent when you complete the tutorial stuff. Over the course of running the first set of missions, a 10 mission series, I had a little over a million ISK and a new shiny Rifter that I couldn’t fly yet. All in all, I think that is a good start for any new pilot.

I don’t think we’re ready to replace the learning curve illustration but hopefully new pilots won’t get frustrated and quit before leaving the tutorial now.  Hopefully.

New Alliance, New Role

***MISSIVE RECEIVED 08.05.2010.00:24:34.596***
*SENDER: JASDAR DOBERIA, CEO
*RECIPIENT: ARKANIS VONBERRA
*SUBJECT: PERFORMANCE REVIEW
*MESSAGE: I NEED SEE YOU IMMEDIATELY!

“Shit,” I muttered before plotting a course back to Ommare. Judging by the tone, I guessed he wasn’t looking for a drinking buddy. As my ship wheeled around and jetted off toward the next gate, I leaned back in my seat and tried to figure out what I had done to set him off this time.

-=***=-

Jasdar Doberia sat stiffly in a high backed desk chair at the far end of his spacious office. “Have a seat, Ark.” He indicated the chair opposite him and I sat.

For a long moment we sat in silence and I used this time to take note of a new ornament on his desk. If I didn’t know Jas well it might have appeared to be another piece of junk. However I had heard the story. Just a few days ago Jas had been set upon by a Minmatar pirate while out roaming in his assault cruiser. Secure that the frigate was no match for his heavy boat, Jas had taken the bait. It took fifteen minutes for the rifter to eat away at Jasdar’s defenses but in the end his hull had buckled and his clone followed.

My gaze shifted from the scrap of metal, all that remained from his cruiser, to Jas’s face. His skin still had the plasticized pallor of a fresh clone. The scowl that he now leveled at me said he knew what I was thinking. Jas would sometimes hold on to these losses for weeks.

Eager to change the subject before it began I spoke up. “You asked to see me, sir.”

For a moment I thought he might not let it go but finally he leaned back in his chair. “We’re joining an alliance.” he said flatly.

I knew how he felt about alliances. Reluctant to give up power and eve more reluctant to serve a higher purpose than himself, Jas had fought the idea with every fiber of his being and I didn’t think he would ever relent. But talk of joining Omega Vector had been bouncing around for a couple of weeks now. Despite myself I let a subtle smile creep onto my face.

“Hold your I told you so’s until we’ve seen some real improvements. You know how I feel about this.”

I nodded.

“On that note, I know you haven’t been back with us for long but you are one of the most trustworthy pilots I know,” he paused for my response to the compliment but I offered none.

I’m not much for kind words and pleasantries. I lead by example and hopefully through that I can earn the trust of my peers.

“I’m going to need someone at the forefront of this endeavor to make sure that we have a fair voice and that no one fucks us. I think that person is you, if you’re willing.”

I thought for a moment about the commitment both in time and in cycles. Jas was right. We couldn’t expect a fair shake out of any alliance if we didn’t have a man on the ground.

“Sign me up.”

“I’ll have to run it past the Directors but I don’t think that will be an issue.”

I stood and nodded. “If that is all…”

“Dismissed.”

What have I gotten myself into?

A little housekeeping…

Nothing exciting to post here except that we’ve added two new blogs to our family here at EVE-Blogs.

In the past week or so Automerias Priore and Needs More Crowbar have both joined.

Give them some love, people!

You CAN go back…

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

I have returned to what was probably my first real home in EVE, Jaskur Corp. Its a comfortable place and I don’t see myself going anywhere for a long time. There are some exciting haps in the works as well that will hopefully give me the opportunity to have some fun with industry. More on that later.

Speaking of industry, I put together my first T4 Planet operation this week. Time will tell if it’s worth the effort. I need to figure out how to make my operation more efficient to maximize profit. I’ll try to post on my results.

No combat of late, except a bit of missioning. I’ll have to change that.

Day Four: Multi-millions

Friday, December 4th, 2009

I’m waiting for the shoe to drop.

For four straight days I’ve made huge strides profit growth. Today was no different. Despite being able to work the market for a shorter amount of time, I still made multiple millions on the day. Still small potato’s in the grand scheme but considerable growth all the same.

Even so, the percentage of growth is leveling out and I expect, even with additional funds available to me, I cannot keep up this pace. I have my eyes on some trade skills that I think will help me effectively try other market tactics. I think I’ll start those tomorrow.

Day Four Stats:
Starting ISK: 1415000.3
Ending ISK: 3972726.5
Profit/(Loss): 2557726.2 (181%)

Day Three: Millionaire

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

I made my first million today. Not just my first million but my first million that was earn entirely in one day.

Today started out slow with two routes drying up before I even picked anything up. It’s annoying but the alternative of a route drying up while in transit is much bleaker. I finally hit a decent route that netted my some nice ISK, nearly doubling my money.

With each route I’m making more and more ISK because I can buy more units and thusly, make more ISK per trip. At one point I was making about 300k ISK per trip. That might not sound like much but to a guy who only three days ago was wallowing in a clone bay, I can’t complain.

After earning about 1.6M ISK I decided it was time to spend a little. I bought a skill book (270k ISK) that will teach me to fly an Iteron. One at least one occasion tonight I had to make multiple trips even though I could buy more units. I needed to secure more cargo space, so I picked up an Iteron for 200k ISK.

We’ll see what tomorrow brings. I took this picture tonight. Kinda cool

Sweeeeeet

Day Three Stats:
Starting ISK: 228649.25
Ending ISK: 1415000.3

Day Two: Profit!

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

Okay, okay. It’s no great shakes but I had a pretty successful day.

Once the curfew was lifted, I undocked and ran about to see what damage the radiation storms had done. I was amazed! It seemed the storms had washed away space dust and debris leaving behind brilliant vistas which mine eyes had never seen. Planets and moons were no longer dull and faded but now teemed with life and color. I must say that if this is what radiation storms bring, let’s see some more.

After I had gotten an eyeful I decided to get to work. Because of my limited bank roll and personal distaste for inefficient mining, I wanted to find some trade routes to exploit. I bounced between two regions checking prices on several items before I found something I could make a profit on. I set out to make my fortune. After only three trips I had exhausted that route but my wallet was virtually busting with over 120k ISK. With a little more ISK to work with I began searching for another route.

Soon enough I found another that I could profit from. I was making a pretty good rake on this item when the market suddenly dried up. Someone else had caught wind of my little gold mine and bought up all the product. Thankfully this happened on a pick up run and not a drop run and I wasn’t stuck holding a loss. In the end I made over 200k ISK.

I hope tomorrow brings similar success.

Day Two Stats:
Starting ISK: 6651.7
Ending ISK: 228649.25
Profit/(Loss): 221997.55 (3337%)

Day One: Where to Begin?

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

The handlers seemed a little rough getting my pod in this ship I was given. I suppose this is what I signed up for. Five Thousand ISK, a ship that isn’t worth a damn and a single unit of tritanium. It will make a fine paperweight, I suppose.

I undocked from the station and tried to get a feel for my new ship. It wasn’t much but it would get me along to my next stop. My first order of business was to find a corporation that had lower taxes. The corporations that sponsor new pod pilots don’t do so cheaply. They take a hefty cut of any and all profits. I’m not interested in giving my ISK away.

I signed on with a small corp who asked for very little in return. Maybe the fella is looking for company. Who knows? He keeps to himself and that’s fine with me.

Now, where do I start? I could mine and make some seed money for my pending market takeover or I could try and find a way to turn my five thousand ISK into more. Then the local government answered for me. A broadcast came in over the net.

ATTENTION ALL POD PILOTS! DUE TO RADIATION STORMS, ALL PILOTS ARE REQUIRED TO DOCK UP AND UNPLUG. THE STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO LAST APPROXIMATELY 19-24 HOURS. THE STORMS WILL ARRIVE AT 02:00. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

02:00 was in less than an hour. No time for mining then. I pulled up the local market browser and began pouring over data. I was looking for something I could buy in one place and sell in another for profit. Without much time, I had to settle for some cheap ammo that would net me about 25% profit with only about 10 total jumps.

I bought the ammo, picked it up and hauled it to the seller with minutes to spare. My net worth: 6651.7 ISK. It isn’t much, but it’s a start. Maybe after these storm pass, I can do a little better. I have skills to buy.

Day One Stats:
Starting ISK: 5000
Ending ISK: 6651.7
Profit/(Loss): 1651.7 (33%)

As soon as I can muster, I’ll be posting transactional data.

100 Day Challenge: And so it begins…

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Not more than a few hours did the careful clone bay workers pull my supple body from the goo and install me in a fresh new pod. The experience is surreal but I don’t have time to relish in the after-glow of my birth. No, I have work to do. You see, I am an experiment, much like an experiment that has come before.

Powerful people wish to know what a truly unknown pod-pilot can do in just 100 solar days. I am to amass as much wealth as possible without the assistance of others. Using market manipulation, trading and perhaps a little mining, I must prove that an inexperienced pilot can make a fair wage in this cold vacuum. I have no friends. I have no sponsors. What I earn is my own.

This is my story.

BOB no more?

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

The EVE Rumor-mill is buzzing with the news that the powerful alliance Band of Brothers has been infiltrated by Goonfleet and disbanded.

Check out the post over at Massively and the audio file released explaining what has happened.
