Rifter Viable for Sleeper Sites

August 7th, 2010 by Gordon

(Actually occured 2 days ago)
So the corp scouts went out and found a C2 with quite the number of combat sites. They began to form the usual fleet we use when I had either an epiphany or a stroke. I somehow made the decision that while everyone was using Hurricanes and Drakes I would go into the combat sites with a Rifter. Yes thats right, a mother f’in Rifter. The rest of my corp mates were curious how my passive shield AB Rifter would hold up in a site where the AI primaries you and you see a decent of volleys stream in from 70+km out. Common sense would say a frig would die too easily hence everyone using Battlecruisers… but low and behold everyone including my self is amazed as my little Rifter tanks the entire first spawn of 6Frigs 4Cruisers and 1BS. My joy continues as I make it through the rest of the combat site without the tank ever breaking. Next step, replace the scram with a web,(yeah all I did was fly my pvp fit rifter in xD) and something to replace the high-slot seeing as nuets are useless on sleepers.

I’m willing to bet it was a stroke.

Sanshas Invasion in Isamm

August 3rd, 2010 by Automerias Priore

Well yesterday as I was quietly chipping away at a hidden belt full of nice Omber and Kernite rocks a great friend and mentor Fastercart radioed me with a strange and exciting message – “Hey Auto – there’s a Sansha Invasion event in Isamm!” All of us pod pilots have heard about these Wormhole fleet incursions into our beloved Amarr space with masses of evil Sansha ships boiling out and wreaking havoc on the locals. I pondered for a second and decided the omber could wait. I let Conestoga Slim – my Orca Booster know I was dropping from fleet and quickly headed back to station to change ships.

Fastercart radioed again and asked if I was going and I replied in the affirmative, but was stuck on exactly which ship to take. He quickly suggested an expendable Cruiser or Battlecruiser Hull. Typical good advice  - I grabbed a Caracal, checked ammo status, ran a quick repair, and set the nav to Isamm — a mere 10 jumps. Hey Evil Sansha Invaders – Not in my Backyard – not without a fight at least!

As I was undocking, I contacted Rothschildia Cinctan, CEO of Hades Renegades for some advice. I felt that an accomplished PVP combat pilot to help steer me through the conflict would be helpful – it was a great idea as I was soon to find out.

I began the long trek to the target system with Rothschildia drilling strategy into my implants. “Enter at your optimal range, align – always align – watch local and load your combat overview settings”. I was steeling myself for the fight when Aura announced that our waypoint had been reached. I glanced at local and there were 87 brave souls in an otherwise quiet and sleepy system.  The local channel bristled with X up requests and finally a reference to a battlefield at Planet VIII. I set my ship to warp to that spot at 30 and crossed my fingers.

As I dropped from warp I saw three things. The first was a massive enemy fleet commanded by a Chimera Carrier ( 50 + battleships, and countless cruisers, frigs and destroyers) – the second was a major wreckfield – with dozens of  wrecks and tragic losses and thirdly a brave and steadfast fleet of 45 or so still fighting. I scanned the battlefield and saw several enemy ships being primaried – so I quickly launched my Thunderbolt Heavies at them with total exhiliration. Rothschildia hummed in my ear to to stay aligned at my optimal – and pay attention for warp scrambling frigs. No sooner had he said that but a Paladin, who was Primary, went down for our side and for some heretofore unknown reason a majority of the enemy ships locked onto me and before I could warp I was locked down and starting to ooze. 50 plus ships targetted and opened fire. The sound was deafening – the light from the lasers and missile explosions was blinding and soon my Caracal joined the ranks of the other wrecks in the area. I warped out in my capsule and went looking for a local market with fresh ship, some fittings and chance for revenge.

I was able to get a Vexor but the available combat fittings were not optimal so instead I fitted some warp core stabilizers on it and a rack of Tech II Salvagers. I warped into the battle which was now almost done and started to salvage wrecks on the periphery of that wreckfield. Some nice Tech II loots were obtained and soon the enemy was vanquished. Once the Carrier vanished  the wholesale looting began. A fleet of Catalysts and Ferox descended and made short work of the wrecks on that massive field. Just rewards for the fallen == My own wreckage and its drops were scooped by another pilot while I was off refitting. After a shport while I returned to home with a belly full of salvage and a great story to tell.

I will be better prepared next time – maybe talk Rothschildia into flying a Basilisk in with me . . . Hmmm.

You CAN go back…

August 2nd, 2010 by Arkanis VonBerra

I have returned to what was probably my first real home in EVE, Jaskur Corp. Its a comfortable place and I don’t see myself going anywhere for a long time. There are some exciting haps in the works as well that will hopefully give me the opportunity to have some fun with industry. More on that later.

Speaking of industry, I put together my first T4 Planet operation this week. Time will tell if it’s worth the effort. I need to figure out how to make my operation more efficient to maximize profit. I’ll try to post on my results.

No combat of late, except a bit of missioning. I’ll have to change that.

Taranis troubles . . . Automerias Priore

July 27th, 2010 by Automerias Priore

This is my entry to the Inspired By Images Of Eve Competition 1. More details and links to all entrants can be found at Starfleet Comms

The day started out so average – a ticket with my name on it came up for a Transport run to low sec to pick up a load of Pirate loot and ill gotten salvage. I wandered out into the hangar and decided to take the Viator – stubby, nasty and quick like a jackrabbit. It is decidedly not a fun ship to fly but its operational specs make it the right ship for this run.

Our top mechanic, Wacked Walleye had just finished fitting some rigs to the hull for a little extra space and I haltingly requested a shield module upgrade. He smiled a typically awesome and gnarly grin , turned out his pockets and cheerily informed me that there were none in stock and corp funds were low. I thanked him, shook off a feeling of total dread and went with the stock Tech 1 mods augmented with crossed fingers.

Once inside I set about completing the preflight checklist – ticking off the current equipment status, checking comms for the trip, arranging for Rothschildia Cinctan to scout me to the destination. All that accomplished I fired up the impulse drives, taxied to the undock point and set the nav computer for the shortest and most risky route. Fingers crossed we launched and began another run for the logistic support squad.

I met up with my scout at a quick warp point off the station and we verifed the route to take. Rothschildia fired off towards the first gate and I waited for his all clear before initiating warp. The monotony of warping to gates and jumping, spatially reorienting and warping to the next gate gets all too numbing after a while but this was not Empire – damn near anything could happen – and probably would.

Rothschildia crackled over the voice comms with another all clear and we had one last jump. I initiated warp and watched as space and time distorted around me – wondering how I got pulled so far from Empire and the utter thrill of mining asteroids and Icesteroids by the cubic ton to be a loot ferryman for the Corporation Navy. As I jumped into the final system I got an all clear for the gate and aligned and started the Docking request sequence. A familiar voice reassuring me. She confirmed my warp status and then informed me that my request to dock had been approved – Aura I think her name is. She is either a very attractive person or the latest Amarrian synthesized voice font. I roused myself from these musings and opened the cargo hold to pick up the courier package.

No Navy members were nearby so I signed the courier contract – loaded the freight and contacted Rothschildia for the ride back. He indicated we had a Blue route all the way back to Akora and I breathed a little easier. Just as I undocked we both received a call over comms that the Navy had pinned down an enemy freighter and were calling for dps. Rothschildia had a battlecruuiser in the hangar locally that fit the bill and I waved him off to join the party.  After all  it was a blue route and only 8 jumps to make in a Transport designed for this exact purpose – what could go wrong.

Fast forward 4 gates – uneventful and kinda boring – but in a good way, when I noticed a name in the Local Comm Channel that seemed familiar – Ugluuk – a bad sort indeed. I came to rapt attention – refocused on my mission to get back to Akora with my cargo and ship intact. I jumped into the next system and started to align for warp when suddenly the dreaded sound of a fast targeting Interceptor filed the air and I was unable to warp. Scrambled – pinned down and taking damage! Shots rang out as I activated my shield mods. I manuevered to start moving back towards the gate through which I had just jumped – 12 KM of slow agonizing empty space. The gate guns began tearing away at his ship and I was quickly high from the unique adrenaline rush that comes as your ship is slowly being picked apart. My shields kept dropping and soon the armor was beginning to evaporate from the serious damage the Taranis was dealing. I got the notice I was hoping for finally, after spamming  the jump command that traffic control mercifully informed me that I could finally jump.

I aligned to the closest gate and warped as he dropped through the gate. We cat and moused through several sytems when I was able to warp to a safe spot in line with the gate and finally shook the pirate off my heels. As my blood pressure slowly lowered and the pounding became less acute all I could say was Taranis – what a nasty little ship – I never wanted to see him or his freakin frig again – ever.

After an hour of safespotting I headed back to Akora. After completed the run I docked up at the Akora station. The Navy was so glad to get their cargo, I collected my commission and stopped to talk with Wally. I couldn’t help but notice the grin on his face when he saw the swiss cheese armor plates. He pulled me aside and let me know that the Tech II invulnerabilty fields that we ordered had become available 15 minutes after I left.

But thats a story for another day. . . . .

Day Four: Multi-millions

December 4th, 2009 by Jaralaxle Tam

I’m waiting for the shoe to drop.

For four straight days I’ve made huge strides profit growth. Today was no different. Despite being able to work the market for a shorter amount of time, I still made multiple millions on the day. Still small potato’s in the grand scheme but considerable growth all the same.

Even so, the percentage of growth is leveling out and I expect, even with additional funds available to me, I cannot keep up this pace. I have my eyes on some trade skills that I think will help me effectively try other market tactics. I think I’ll start those tomorrow.

Day Four Stats:

Day Three: Millionaire

December 3rd, 2009 by Jaralaxle Tam

I made my first million today. Not just my first million but my first million that was earn entirely in one day.

Today started out slow with two routes drying up before I even picked anything up. It’s annoying but the alternative of a route drying up while in transit is much bleaker. I finally hit a decent route that netted my some nice ISK, nearly doubling my money.

With each route I’m making more and more ISK because I can buy more units and thusly, make more ISK per trip. At one point I was making about 300k ISK per trip. That might not sound like much but to a guy who only three days ago was wallowing in a clone bay, I can’t complain.

After earning about 1.6M ISK I decided it was time to spend a little. I bought a skill book (270k ISK) that will teach me to fly an Iteron. One at least one occasion tonight I had to make multiple trips even though I could buy more units. I needed to secure more cargo space, so I picked up an Iteron for 200k ISK.

We’ll see what tomorrow brings. I took this picture tonight. Kinda cool

Day Two: Profit!

December 2nd, 2009 by Jaralaxle Tam

Okay, okay. It’s no great shakes but I had a pretty successful day.

Once the curfew was lifted, I undocked and ran about to see what damage the radiation storms had done. I was amazed! It seemed the storms had washed away space dust and debris leaving behind brilliant vistas which mine eyes had never seen. Planets and moons were no longer dull and faded but now teemed with life and color. I must say that if this is what radiation storms bring, let’s see some more.

After I had gotten an eyeful I decided to get to work. Because of my limited bank roll and personal distaste for inefficient mining, I wanted to find some trade routes to exploit. I bounced between two regions checking prices on several items before I found something I could make a profit on. I set out to make my fortune. After only three trips I had exhausted that route but my wallet was virtually busting with over 120k ISK. With a little more ISK to work with I began searching for another route.

Soon enough I found another that I could profit from. I was making a pretty good rake on this item when the market suddenly dried up. Someone else had caught wind of my little gold mine and bought up all the product. Thankfully this happened on a pick up run and not a drop run and I wasn’t stuck holding a loss. In the end I made over 200k ISK.

I hope tomorrow brings similar success.

Day Two Stats:
Starting ISK: 6651.7
Ending ISK: 228649.25
Profit/(Loss): 221997.55 (3337%)

Day One: Where to Begin?

December 1st, 2009 by Jaralaxle Tam

The handlers seemed a little rough getting my pod in this ship I was given. I suppose this is what I signed up for. Five Thousand ISK, a ship that isn’t worth a damn and a single unit of tritanium. It will make a fine paperweight, I suppose.

I undocked from the station and tried to get a feel for my new ship. It wasn’t much but it would get me along to my next stop. My first order of business was to find a corporation that had lower taxes. The corporations that sponsor new pod pilots don’t do so cheaply. They take a hefty cut of any and all profits. I’m not interested in giving my ISK away.

I signed on with a small corp who asked for very little in return. Maybe the fella is looking for company. Who knows? He keeps to himself and that’s fine with me.

Now, where do I start? I could mine and make some seed money for my pending market takeover or I could try and find a way to turn my five thousand ISK into more. Then the local government answered for me. A broadcast came in over the net.

ATTENTION ALL POD PILOTS! DUE TO RADIATION STORMS, ALL PILOTS ARE REQUIRED TO DOCK UP AND UNPLUG. THE STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO LAST APPROXIMATELY 19-24 HOURS. THE STORMS WILL ARRIVE AT 02:00. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

02:00 was in less than an hour. No time for mining then. I pulled up the local market browser and began pouring over data. I was looking for something I could buy in one place and sell in another for profit. Without much time, I had to settle for some cheap ammo that would net me about 25% profit with only about 10 total jumps.

I bought the ammo, picked it up and hauled it to the seller with minutes to spare. My net worth: 6651.7 ISK. It isn’t much, but it’s a start. Maybe after these storm pass, I can do a little better. I have skills to buy.

Day One Stats:
Starting ISK: 5000
Ending ISK: 6651.7
Profit/(Loss): 1651.7 (33%)

As soon as I can muster, I’ll be posting transactional data.
